2008 has been a very exciting year for Latin American cinema, with the presence of a considerable number of films in the most important festivals, and the commercial release of several of these films, confirming the current quality of Latin American productions and the demand from worldwide audiences.
For seven consecutive years now, we at the DLA Film Festival have remained committed to providing the major platform for the screening of Latin American cinema in London and the UK, believing, as we do, in the vast potential of its film industry. We are very pleased to offer again this year a programme which showcases a line up of the best feature films from new and acclaimed directors from throughout Latin America.
Our programme offers an insight into the diverse cinematographic talent, ranging from the Lucrecia Martel retrospective, which includes the UK premier of her latest film, "The Headless Woman", to the rare filmic presence of Puerto Rican directors Mariem Perez and Carlos Ruiz with "Love Sickness". Also included are major new works from familiar directors such as Andrés Wood's "The Good Life", a deep portrayal of contemporary Chilean society, Pablo Trapero's "Lion’s Den", his most sensorial film to date, and Rodrigo Plá's "Desert Within", with its beautiful cinematography.
We are also particularly pleased to offer audiences the possibility of a deeper understanding of Latin American cinema through the presence of our special invited guests, the directors Lucrecia Martel, Andrés Wood and Carlos Moreno, who will be discussing their films and participating in audience Q&As.
